When you e-mail a picture you took does it end up on the web outside of your email?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I don't know technology and I'd really like to know
When you e-mail a picture you took does it end up on the web outside of your email?
Yes, it ends up on your email service's data storage.

Email is normally not stored on your machine, but on the server for that email address; which means if you sent it to someone form a different email type then it would end of their company's server as well.

If you sent the email from work then it would probably end up on the company's server as well. People aren't supposed to look at it, but they can and if it is your company then they can monitor what you do on line.

If you post anything on the web, even in email, it is like posting it on a public bulletin board; who knows who might see it.

Facebook and MySpace have their own servers so all the data on them is stored on their servers and employers like to make it a habit to Google their employees to find out if they are doing something they don't like. People have been fired based on what they posted on their MySpace and Facebook web pages. So don't put anything out there that would embarrass you.

If you want to send dirty photos to someone then you had better use a snail mail carrier NOT an email service or who knows where your pictures could end up. Few email companies bother to look at the email that goes through them, there is so much it would be impossible to check it all. But, if you work for a company and use their web server then someone may look at it, and a court order can force and email provider to allow police access to your email. Plus under the Patriot Act all electronic communications sent abroad can be monitored by the US Government; so dozens if not hundreds of people could possibility see those emailed photos.

The likely probability is that no one will see them, there is just too much email out there for people to check it, but it can end up on another server out of your hands, out of your control and you probably won't even know about it.

"The only stupid question is the one that is never asked."

Notice how many people don't know the answer. Think about it if you accessed your email at a friend's house then they shouldn't have a copy of your email, but you will find it is all there; that means that the email has to be on someone else's machine somewhere else on the web. Send it to a different email company and that is two places, send it through your private company's email and that is three companies, send it abroad and that is three companies and the US government, not to mention the government of the country where you are sending it. Then when you consider that most email is handled by phone company servers and third parties your little pictures can end up on a number of servers.

Again few people will be able to pick out yours from the vast output of the web; but if someone wanted to they can, it is not hard to hack into someone else's email account.

The same is true for ANY electronically sent information; faxes, text messages and phone calls.
Reply:It's not quite that simple; the picture is in the e-mail, and it's not available outside of the e-mail, but the picture is wherever the e-mail goes, so if someone manages to intercept the e-mail, then they could open the image. To remove the risk of that, use encryption in your e-mail, or just don't worry about it.
Reply:Yes. Anytime you send any information through email/internet it's possible for it to be seen by someone other than the intended receiver. It goes through a server (ie. yahoo) which can be monitored by the provider for content. Same for phone texting and pictures. Be careful sending anything that has questionable content. Someone may see it...
Reply:No, Your e-mail is a personal thing between you and the person you e-mail it too. Now if the person you email it to takes the picture and posts it on a site such as: Myspace or just anywhere on the internet then it becomes open to all people.
Reply:No, the email is received only by the intended party unless the signal is intercepted in between you and the recipient (this is VERY rare).

I would not be worried about this at all as I have done it many times and not had a problem.
Reply:only if the emails intercepted will it be shared on the web and that's only if the person who intercepted it shared it on the web and intercepting an email is like, a 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 chance
Reply:when you send an SMS message from your phone, to your email it's only on your email, nowhere else.

it'll be something like:

1838392SMSMESSAGE@%26lt;provider%26gt;%26lt;yourphone...

etc...

Nobody will see it unless they have access to your email or phone.
Reply:Not unless the person you are mailing it to PUTS it there. Or it is hacked somehow, but this is a very un-likely possibility.
Reply:It only gets sent to the email address you sent it to. The picture is not published on the 'web'. This would only happen if you maybe had Spyware on your computer.
Reply:only if you or the person that received it puts it up somewhere.
Reply:yes duh!!!!
Reply:I highly doubt it ^_^
Reply:depends how u e mail the pic... like if it's off photobucket ya then!
